In the next issue of the Quarterly magazine, Henry Louis Smith writes a follow-up article in which he states that Washington and Lee University was unable to raise sufficient funds to renovate Lee Chapel.
Our team used Voyant Tools to create a word cloud that highlights the most frequently recurring themes using a word count. Not surprisingly, this yielded a cloud that showed Lee Chapel as the most prevalent word, with other words like “building” and “general” coming in a close second. Even after we adjusted the settings to keep these uninformative words from showing, our results were not much different. The results from Voyant Tools word cloud did not necessarily reveal any new information; in an article about Lee Chapel, one expects such words to be prevalent. Thus, this style of text analysis was not edifying to our project in that it demonstrated results that we expected.
