The Daughters of the American Revolution also became involved in the debate over Lee Chapel renovations. Again, this became an issue on a scale much larger than just Washington and Lee University.
The Daughters of the American Revolution, too, wanted Lee Chapel to reflect the wishes of General Lee and not those of his admirers seeking to further memorialize him. Note the language, "to change it in any way would destroy its essential character." This was a common theme in the arguments against chapel renovations.
